My Second Favorite Poem

Not Waving but Drowning

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

  1. Hello!
I am friends with someone who's a follower of your blog and I just noticed that you're from Nashua. I'm from VT. It's a small world, eh!?

My name is Hannah and I'm a high school senior by the way. It's not often that I find people in the blogging world that are actually near me!

This is a very interesting poem. I was trying to see if it was 75 words or longer because I need to memorize a poem for english in a few weeks and am keeping my eyes open, but it's not. Do you have any suggestions?
I'll talk to you soon, thanks!
    Hannah

  2. Nice to meet you Hannah. I hope that you are enjoying your senior English classes. Last month I posted my favorite poem and it seems like it is more than 75 words. See if you like it.

  3. What is your ultimate favorite poem, Jemima?
Mine would definitely be Pablo Neruda's Sonnet 17.
This was a good one though, thank you for sharing.

  4. I love the way the line is repeated when it becomes a metaphor for the whole life!
